  1. My friend was trying to learn this the other day and we realized that her back wasn’t flexible enough. I can’t wait to try it from the floor. I haven’t done the flag in a while, so I need to get reacquainted with that.

  2. Thank you everyone! Cantetinza, You don’t need a great amount of spinal extension for this (you don’t need to be able to back bend for example) however, you need spinal and torso mobility, side to side movement and strength of the core. Still tight hip flexors and lack of spinal extension will make this move harder to hold.

  3. I’m curious what your thoughts are on getting into Janeiro from Brass Monkey instead of from the cross-knee release. I’ve been attempting it from Brass Monkey, mostly because I find it easier to get my shoulders around the pole in order to get my flag arm (the shelf arm) into position from Brass Monkey than from cross-knee release, although I still tend to lose balance and tip out of it when I try to move into the final pose regardless of which starting pose I use to transition into the Janiero.

  4. I think people have the most issue with tipping out of the pose from brass monkey which is why I didn’t show that particular entry. You can absolutely use brass monkey if you like. 🙂 The key to keep from falling off the shelf, is to keep that top hip and leg reaching as far behind you as possible.

  5. I can’t seem to get that bottom arm off! I got it off once today and not for long- couldn’t seem to do it again. It’s like I’m not tipped enough and that bottom arm is what keeps me in place. I’m just going to have to keep on working on it!

  6. I can’t take off that bottom arm either. I prefer the brass monkey entry as I feel more stable and feel I get good contact with my back against the pole but just can’t find that balance to remove the arm. So frustrated!

  7. Just started to work on this yesterday and it didn’t go nearly as badly as I thought it would! Actually kinda like working on this one. I’m wondering if you have any tips for girls with bigger booties. I’m finding it difficult to get my butt on one side of the pole – lol!

  8. Thanks, Veena! Good to know all butts are trouble in Janeiro! Watching my video I can see I’m pretty close but I think I need to put my elbow shelf lower than I think. I think I need to come away from the pole more, too.

  9. Got into this one today for a split second (with a LOT of help and support!) 😁 For me the cross knee release entry works better than brass monkey. I can’t get my body around the pole from brass monkey for some reason.
