You're smart for wanting to build strength!! If you're looking for things you can do at home with or without the pole, check out the lessons here if you can. I start you off with strength work first, and in addition to that, there's a section for pole conditioning exercises.https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I don't think any of them look too muscular, but then again I think muscles are sexy. Genetics always play a part in how muscular we look too.https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif
For an amateur level pole dancer you'll find pole gives you a nice shapely body. When done properly you do not need to suffer injury either. Chem listed the most common injuries already….all can be prevented!!!

@ shona it wont stop all bruising, but because is sticks to the pole you'll be able to climb with less stress on the foot.
Willio, Cliimbing with both feet pointed will improve your strength for sure!!

If your taking the lessons, there are several stretches for the shoulders and the back, listed in the Stretching section of the lessons. These are all important ones to work on even if your goal isn't to become Gumby Flexy. lol Here's the first of 10 for Back mobility https://stage.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4ddfb933-22f0-4762-b396-642a0ac37250

Have your therapist take a look at these conditioning exercises. There are 10 total that focus on proper shoulder/scapula engagement. Here's the first of the 10 https://stage.studioveena.com/lessons/view/0225276c-b90a-11df-856f-001b214581be
For many people what FEELS right isn't always correct, this is why using a mirror or video so you can see what your doing can be helpful. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

It's nice to see more people using the POC's! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifI've been told the xpert training is pretty identical to mine as well, so it's nice to see some cohesive teaching! Yay. I know I have heard good things about your coarse Empy. Angel's is also well spoken of too.

I always suggest the 45mm chrome for new home dancers, because the TG can be a bit too grippy for a new dancer. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

If your still having trouble climbing try this stuff, it's kinda fun and you can wrap it around and put it anywhere. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pipedream-Fantasy-Pleasure-Bondage-Tape/dp/B001LUR48O

If your feet are bruising and hurting when climbing you might want to chech your technique. Try making sure your pushing the shin into the pole and pressing the inside of the knee into the pole when climbing. The foot shouldnt be taking on all of the pressure. This is very common for new polers to rely on the foot to hold them. Using the upper body ( back and biceps ) is also important for all climbs. So in short the foot can wrap around the pole but it shouldn’t be taking on much of the pressure. Give that a try. Boots and shoes can be a great tool for performing so you can climb easier with less effort! 😉
