I don't know if you have the lessons but I strongly believe in learning from the floor first, this gives the student a chance to work on the position. Also the Veena grip is very secure, because if you happen to not apply enough pressure to the trap then you still have the hand/arm extended allow you to "catch" yourself. With the cup grip, if your not applying pressure you could slip. Also when your new to the SM placing the hands too low, in the cup grip will not give you as much leverage as placing the hand up a bit higher. I talk about hand placement in the lesson. Getting over a fear of doing something is very important, because if you have that fear, then you will not be able to progress. Many things are just as much mental as physical. Believing you can accomplish the move is the first step for me. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Oh dear sorry to hear that!! Rest, massage and stretch. Give your body time to heal, when you do get the lessons and are have rested for a bit start with the stretching and conditioning lessons for the hands, wrists and forearms. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

When I hear the term "basic" I think of things like, Pole Strength moves and technique. You can never go wrong with focusing on these basics https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif I still work on pole holds ect…and my flexibility every time I dance. I categorize moves as beginner not because all of them should be easy…but rather because they are great strength builders and will give you the necessary foundation to progress. Over training can happen with any sport regardless of the persons level. Stretching and resting is so very important to an overall healthy and happy body https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I did some English riding in my early teens. Was in one show, and place 3rd out of 3 in each division lol. My horse hated my English saddle, because he was trained with a western saddle and last I knew he went to a wonderful home where he was happily racing barrels https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

No not before….I was referring to the beginner pole moves (saying you need to do conditioning work first before pole moves) not the pole strength lessons. As a beginner you do the pole strength 3 times a week and at then end of your workout choose one or more if you want… category of the conditioning lessons. Just follow the order of the lessons adding in the conditioning at the end of a session.

I don't feel this should be considered a beginner move, so those of you who feel bad about not getting it right away don't….it takes strength. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
