I will be adding this as a lessons but for now….here is a good angle of me doing this and an example of what hand placement should look like. http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4728" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; At about 1:18 Its best to bring the inside hand up to the pole..then..swing the leg and body around. Ignore the bent top leg…I nearly put a hole in my ceiling the first time I did it in these boots with my leg extended. LOL https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif

I seem to be having the opposite problem. When I click on videos to watch them I hear the music but the actual video doesnt play, its just a black screen in the video player box??? Some peoples videos I can see, others…not so much https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
Did you try up dating your flash? http://www.flash.com

I have the pole up and I was using it, but I can see the ceiling move when I spin (it’s on spinny mode), and that makes me really nervous! Plus the pole doesn’t spin as smoothly as it did when I first put it up and I don’t want to mess up my pole. Maybe this is a good opportunity for me to learn on static mode! I never thought of that! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
sounds like your pole might be too tight. If it doesn’t spin fast when you try it often its over tightened. This can wreck your ceiling and bend your pole https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif You don’t need to crank the adjuster until you can’t turn it any longer…that is too tight.

AdministratorSeptember 11, 2010 at 2:11 pm in reply to: What do you do to prevent injury or heal?I always warm up
If I have taken time off of poling, I start with strength training first, for a week. Working full body but focusing on shoulders and wrists (doing all the exercises I have in the strength lessons)
I always focus on keeping a neutral scapula. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif
Stretch after to maintain….. but have been doing flexibility work daily. To work on increasing flexibility. If I have an injury…Rest, ice, ASAP
See a dr if you feel you need to, they can help you determine if its muscle, tendon, bone, sprain ect….
Normally with pole its muscle stains for this I
Rest, ice as soon as I know I have hurt myself.
The next day…Massage, heat. To prevent scar tissue.
Once you begin to use the injured area, ice after use to reduce swelling. Continue with heat and massage for as long as needed. Over icing always seems to prevent my injury to heal quickly so I only ice after exercising or heavily using the injured muscle or tension. Massage heat and gentle stretching when warm has been my friend. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gifI don’t treat my bruises because they don’t bother me much. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif

It sounds like you may have strained a Rhomboid….Ice after heavy use to prevent swelling. Do a lot of massage and heat to bring more circulation to the muscle. I would really suggest doing scapula stabilization exercises BEFORE you begin inverting…these will help you understand the proper positioning for inverting and all pole moves. When doing pole holds, inverts and spins, always engage the shoulders and be sure the shoulders are not hunching up to your ears. If they, are your not holding the scapula properly and will over stress the muscles. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
If your taking the lessons here are the scapula exercises that would be very beneficial.I have 10 shoulder exercises so I will only post the first (they go in order) and last one. The rest are all sandwiched in between these 2 https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I’m so happy to see you competing https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Even in your hooping is very you, and I like that. I don’t think its a bad thing at all to not be compared to someone. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

AdministratorSeptember 9, 2010 at 1:26 pm in reply to: What makes us unique as individuals in our pole dancingI really do hate being so sensitive about it…..I think it comes from being the youngest in my family. They are all really talented (give us something crafty or artistic and we can master it) and one of my older sisters would sing a lot in church and for everyone’s weddings. We also both played flute. I really loved singing and playing flute but was always compared to my older sister (she was 10 yrs older.) I could sing fine (maybe better than fine knowing my views on myself) and would do some singing in school and church but I was always "just like Linda". https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif or I looked Just like Linda, talked just like Linda. Growing up as a "clone" of my sister I never felt like there was any thing unique about me. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif Once I reached my teens I stop singing solo in public because I didn’t like the pressure of trying to live up to my sisters talents. My whole family is a bunch of perfectionist. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif To this day I still have a hard time singing around her because I don’t want to be compared to her. I"m so silly!! I’m sure this is why I don’t want to compete in pole comps either…..I hope I didn’t over share and cause you to think less of me….but there is really no other place I can go to talk about this. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

AdministratorSeptember 8, 2010 at 10:09 pm in reply to: Just had my baby 2 weeks ago how long till I can pole again?I did not have a C section and it was a very easy birth. You need to WAIT!!!!!…. to start poling or do any ab work until you have spoken with your Doctor. Most Doctors will not understand how heavily we use our core in pole and may give you the go too soon!! So be very clear that this is strenuous and much like rock climbing and gymnastics (to give an idea of level of stress on the body) Don’t rush a C section. You’ll be back on the pole in no time Talk with your DR and most importantly listen to your body https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Sometimes I even take down the comments. I know there is a copy cat mentality and I don’t want to be thought of as one. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif I feel like the dancer that has no style https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I need to suck it up and deal with it. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I’m always told I dance "like Alethea, or Felix" I actually stopped watching the pros videos because It thought maybe I was "copying" without realizing….I don’t know. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif lol Some day I hope to develop my own style https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
