cool..i like this one….i love spinny work. are we allowed to use spinning pole at veena or just on stationary?
Spins on Static/stationary poles. Don’t hate me spin lovers https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif ….I say static only because I consider using a spinning pole, holds (not really spins) because you hold the position as the pole spins you. Both are challenging in their own way! -
for the elbow grip…In addition to moving your body away from the pole for balance, you also need to have your elbow in the right place before you start to move away from your pole.
Caterpillar up, stay tucked bring the elbow way up close to the KNEES, then slowly move out from there, you don’t even have to take both feet off right away. You should be able to balance even in a tuck position. If your gripping to close to your FACE you wont feel secure in your elbow grip.
Here’s the lesson for the elbow http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/2617
Here’s the lesson for the forearm http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/2594

Yep EVERYONE is encouraged to join in the challenges. This is not like YT and I wont allow snide remarks or putting others down. The site is about supporting each other and out love for pole https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Even Advanced dancers are looking for trouble if they pole everyday at the same intensity. Pole is such a full body work out that you really need to give your body the time to repair. If you don’t your looking at overuse injuries and burnout. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif If I worked on pole tricks the day before and I have time for a work out the next day….I will work on floorworks, stretching, yoga, hooping, but at a low intensity.

You will have some tenderness at first….but if your in the right position it shouldn’t be painful all the time. Make sure that the pole is very close to the neck, stay off the spine, but you want the pole way up on the trap (the part of the neck that curves up) The pole should be right by your ear when you look up. If the pole is off near the end of the shoulder you will have a lot more pain then if you keep the pole close. Hope that helps. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

For anyone who is taking the lessons on here….this is the link for the SM lesson. http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/2677 No kicking need, also you’ll learn the right angle to position yourself so you can work on it from the ground first.

The ladies all gave great advice! I love my Veeners! Also don’t forget to warm up, even your wrists and hands need to be ready to work. We put a lot of stress on them. It may not just be pole related….I started to have wrist pain and some elbow pain, when I would pole THEN sit on my computer typing or using the mouse for hrs.
If you have the online lessons here, I have a group of exercise AND stretches for your hands, wrist and forearms that will help.
Here is a link to the first one in the series http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/3132

I also teach the Planks first…..there are so many moves that can be done without needing to invert! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

NO KICKING……I teach you to LEAD with one leg but…..you don’t swing the leg and use momentum. Kicking is a good way to injure yourself. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

I tell dancers to get use to a number of inverts by using the handstand first! Its a great way to get familiar with the positioning of a move. I don’t know if your taking the lessons here or not but, I have you try some of the inverts from the handstand or reverse handstand position. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif Its not cheating at all.
