I do not like this move…….. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif This move aggravated a non pole related injury for me personally and I have heard of and gotten emails from other dancers who have injured themselves because of this move. Soooo should anyone chose to try this TG mount, I feel it should be done from an invert and NOT by kicking up into the mount. Its a really unnatural position for the top arm to begin with, and adding the force of a kick and the jerking on the limbs that can result, means you can VERY easily injure yourself. If you have troubles at all with your wrist, elbows or shoulders DON’T try this move!
The twisted grip takes more abdominal strength and will feel more stable than a regular grip for the cartwheel mount and some other grips, because your not relying on arm strength as Chem said, but your "pulling/hanging" from a larger muscle group, the shoulder/upper back/teres major & minor ect.. and using a straight arm to push away from the bottom. The bottom arm can cause pain and trouble too if you tend to be hyperflexible at the elbow.
I know a good number of pole moves are far from ergonomically correct so this is my thought on the TG…. If someone has the strength and flexibility to perform this safely then that’s fine for them, but I don’t think this is a move that everyone should be doing. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

AdministratorJanuary 26, 2010 at 6:11 pm in reply to: More controversy for a intersting topic 🙂This goes along more with the sexuality post but….I had a comment made on my very pregnant (Totally non sexual) pole dance stating that is was a nice video but they "couldn’t find it sexy." I responded back saying "thats good it was never intended to be sexy." They went on to say that pole dance has always been sexual and is meant to be sexual…blah, blah. I didn’t have time for them so I just deleted the whole conversation, it be came pointless.
I think that there are many forms of pole dance, my favorite is the expressive/dance variation. I do think that a lot of the"pro" pole dancers, no longer dance but only do tricks, and very beautifully!!! The girl in the video, did dance…and she flowed very wonderfully I think!!!! I"m not sure what that poster meant by "authentic" did they mean sexual, or what? Because that girl in the vid danced beautifully. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

If your looking for some guidance on what to do next, all of my lessons here on Studioveena are in order of level of difficulty (keep in mind everyone is different) I also have strength training moves you can do with your pole, this is helpful for the beginner and those time when the more advanced dancer wants to get to the next level, because sometimes its only a matter of strength holding you back. Also if you have questions on any of the lessons you can leave a comment and I’ll get back to you. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I was disappointed too when I saw the holes on the X pole, I didn’t know that was how they were made…. but to be honest, I have never even noticed them. My X stage is smooth too. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif I have had both the PS stainless steel and X pole Chrome and Titanium Gold finishes. I hated the Stainless finish, it took forever to warm up enough to use, LOVE the X pole Titanium gold, but I wouldn’t recommend it for the beginner/intermediate, its just too grippy, its great for advanced work. I think Chrome is the best of both worlds, has great grip once it is warmed and wont tear your skin or give you terrible pole burn like TG. Of course your still get pole burn… but I have had some bad ones on my TG. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

I like to have dancers work on their elbowstands first, once they have control over that move, (no throwing themselves again the wall or pole) but gently lift one leg then the other, using abdominals then its on to the handstands. The key is really control, if you don’t have the strength to lift your self into the position, then we tend to use force and that can result in missing your pole https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif The girls are right about your splits, so try that, its how I teach the elbow and handstands. Also to keep excessive pressure off your wrist, spread your fingers far apart and think of pressing into the floor with the fingers and not pressing with the palm so much. If you have the lessons here are the 2 moves elbow and hand

I want to let you all know I’m so pleased with the spirit in which we have all discussed a touchy subject!! Its a rare thing to find on a forum…..its very refreshing to see adults behaving like…well… adults https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I loved reading all your points of view. HUZ to you all https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
I’ll keep mine short…….I love ALL aspects of pole dancing, the dirty, the sensual, the sporty, the aerial, and heartfelt emotional!!! Finding this incredibly diverse art form has been wonderful for my spirit. I have always love music, and have felt a need/desire to express it…(I play many instruments, sing and did some figure skating back in the day) but non of those forms of musical expression have ever really "done it" for me. I have found my "thing" I discovered both Pole Dancing and Dance at about the same time. When I watch dancing, not just pole, but any style and any form, it takes me to another place in my mind, so much more emotional then I had ever thought I could be!! I cry all the time over music I hear on the radio and performances I see on YT or TV! I am not a crier mind you!! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Its wonderful what this world of dance has done TO me, I only wish I had experienced this all sooner in my life. I hope the "dance" is never taken away from the ART that is pole, now THAT would be something to cry about! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

If you have OVERTIGHTENED your pole against the ceiling then it will not spin as fast and as freely. The adjuster rod should not be tightened so much that you can no longer turn it.
