Sounds like a good plan to wait…you can always stretch and work on transitions around the pole for now. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

What I have noticed with my stretching is that my hamstrings are holding me back – what type of stretches could I do for this? My dad runs a lot and he has tight hamstrigns – surely it can’t be heredetory?
I didn’t get chance to stretch yesterday as only had a quick gym session but I will be stretching after pole class later – do you think I will be ok to stretch after the gym at lunch time aswell? Twice in 1 day?
-x-It CAN be hereditary…..its all your dads fault, JK don’t blame him. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Yes you can stretch 2 times a day….but always warm up first otherwise it wont be effective.
Check out this thread for a few hamstring and hip stretches. https://stage.studioveena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1786" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I would be worried about injury too…..Alcohol and pole don’t mix in my book…I know I’m a party pooper. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif

Great thread Charley BTW….
Today will be day 3 of stretching in a row, I have never made it past 3 times in a row since before Henry was born. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif My focus is on middle splits (I"m soooooo close) haven’t done them since I was under the age of 10. I am also working on hamstrings and back. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

Recheck your positioning…..To help avoid hitting the collarbone, you need to make sure your positioning the pole in closer towards the spine…NOT ON…but right at the bottom of the curve where you neck and shoulders meet on the muscle called the trapezius. If your out towards the middle or end ( away from the mid line of the body ) or your you’ll end up rolling over the collarbone. Stay in close to the neck. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Do you have blisters (ripped skin)? or calluses (hard dry skin)? People who have sweaty hands tend to get blisters, a warm pole and hot moist skin can rip. If that is the problem try to dry your hands often and give your hands and pole a break in between spins, spins heat up the pole and your hands the most. Do floorwork or transitions in between.
If its calluses then do what Roxi suggested….this is what I have to do. I have cold dry hands, so I tend to get calluses. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Keep it slower and controlled at first and it really helped me to work on only upright moves….don’t start off with inverting on spin, this made it worse for me. Do a trick or two, then get off and do some floor work, then try a trick or to again. The worst thing I found was to try move after move https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif

I like the frog one, and I do know that if the frog is to intense, you can do it with toes together and it will be easier.
Here are some I like…
The forward fold standing and sitting works really well for me…I do both passive lower back and active… for this one remember to flex the feet not point. Stretching lower back, hamstrings and calfs.
I also like the Pyramid, active back (not rounding) This will stretch the hips, hamstrings and calf!! The best way I can discribe it would be a warrior pose..you bring your torso down over the front leg…not rounding your back.
The tree is good to help you work on hip rotation outward! fantastic for balance to. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I’m going if we can find a studio. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I don’t wanna book a hotel hrs away from the pole jam place. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif
One more thing….if we can find a place for the pole jam I might want to send out an email inviting any members to come join us….sou there could be 10 or more….I really have no idea how many would be interested. I would really like the contact info for what ever studio is willing to host. I would like it to not only be just a pole jam…but an X mas party pole jam https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rendeer.gif

Are we talking about hip flexion as in tight hamstrings and lower back flexibility right …having trouble folding the body over…like touching your toes?? or Tight Flexors of the hip joint…interfering with bending backwards ect..?
