August 29, 2013 at 11:23 am in reply to: Should Kids Use The Pole?

This is a common question here from moms. My answer is always YES! Kids LOVE playing on the pole!!! I have 4 boys and they all are allowed to use the pole. However, they have to ask my permission, and they cannot use it when I'm not around for safety reasons.  I even made a video with my kids a few years ago (they are much older now) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vCkyjxm1Hk

I don't steer away from the sexual aspect of it, I don't think its necessary. I want my boys to have a healthy view on sexuality and I think that comes from not hiding that we are sexual beings. There is nothing dirty about wanting to feel sexy or think someone is sexy, it's normal!! I let my oldest boys watch Dancing with the stars and So you think you can dance and they have some very sensual (sexual as others might see it) dances on those shows. They understand that pole dance can be many things including sexy, just like any other style of dance.

Jacki C I use to feel the way you do!! I would immediately say it was a good workout when talking to others about it! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Now that I have matured in my pole journey, here's my take on it. I totally understand why many parents (and others) like to emphasis the "fitness" aspect of pole, because it's less awkward. You want to protect your kids and yourself from judgment. But, by not talking openly about the other sides of pole, like the fact that is can be sexy, are we possibly keeping that very stigma that many pole dancers worry about? Unless a person truly, ONLY, uses the pole for exercise (which some do and that's cool) I think we might be doing ourselves an injustice by playing the "I do it for fitness" card. Wouldn't it be great if everyone could be comfortable with their sexuality!!!!

One last thing, I'm not say that poling just for the fitness is bad or wrong, not at all! I just don't want it to become the excuse we use to justify what we love..IF that love is Pole DANCE. If you do pole FITNESS, then yes, focus on what a great workout it is when you talk with others. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

August 29, 2013 at 9:29 am in reply to: stupid carpet!

My poles are on carpet and dancing in heels is REALLY difficult, but not impossible. I tend to dance barefoot because of this when I practice though. If I plan on working on floorwork then I put legging on, but then of course you can't dance on the pole as much. So my advice, just keep at it, it is possible to flow on carpet it's just not the perfect option. It's great for challenging your balance. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

You don't have to have the foam roller, I use it a few times in the program but it's not a big deal if you don't have one. You can just skip that part. I would suggest buying a resistance band or 2. I use those in the program and I suggest all pole dancers use them for conditioning. They are pretty inexpensive. Here are two examples http://www.amazon.com/Valeo-VA7657MU-Stretch-Bands/dp/B0007IS714/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1377707857&sr=8-4&keywords=resistance+bands

You can find them at sporting goods stores and places like WalMart and Target too.

Jane ette, I'm sorry your classes keep canceling! The lessons here are perfect for home polers! I break them down really well and we have slow motion and picture in picture, pause, rewind etc. Everything is place in order so you work towards building the necessary strength needed for more advanced work. Even the stretches are place in a specific order. If you have questions about your form you can always post a video for myself and the other member to view. There is also the option of leaving a comment on a lesson for me if you have questions and I get back to you ASAP! Tons of people have use these lessons to learn at home. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

The 30 day take off program is part of the lesson package. You’ll have access to it once you purchase the lessons. You’ll need a pole at home to get started.

Make sure it’s a nice large hoop, the bigger the easier when first learning 🙂

Jadestrada, maybe you wont need grip aid anymore if you use a PC pole? Then you wouldn't really have to worry too much about cleaning. I can understand not wanting to use off the shelf windex, I know it's important to some people. You can always write to Lil Mynx and ask if vinegar is safe for the SV pole or if they can suggest any natural alternatives for the pole.

I'll mention again that I rarely use windex while poling. I only need to clean the pole with it now and then. All I use is a clean dry rag during my pole sessions, it's great! Not saying that's how it will be for everyone, but it's how it is for me. I don't use grip aids on my pole, other than the occasional mighty grip if it's super hot and I start to sweat a ton. Even if I use the mighty grip a dry rag will clean the pole. I have never needed to steam the SV pole.

They commented here once, saying that alcohol will dull the finish.

Might grip worked really well with the pole. Lil mynx said windex is best. I lotion every night with Lubriderm and don’t need grip. I dance in the a.m. 🙂
