As you mentioned, you will find you'll have more revolutions around a smaller diameter pole. The more you trust that you can DO it, and have the right placement down, the stronger your leg and arm swings will be.
In the lessons I do talked about where your hands and body should be for each spin, and it's not just the leg the sweeps that help with momentum, but for most static spins the body will have to move in a direction away from the pole as well. Spins do take a of strength. If you can achieve 1-2 revolutions your doing just fine. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hello, welcome to the site! I'm glad you found us https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

You might already know all of this info on this vid but I'll post it, for others who might have the questions about spin mode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtinAzp17s0&list=UUup79MtZnWP_SCAHeVlmzdQ&index=5&feature=plcp
All of the spin lessons here also cover using a spinning pole. There are slight adjustments you need to make. Like most everything, just keep at it. Imagine how slowly you move through water and try to translate that sloooow movement on to your spinning pole.

Do you mind if I share this video out on my Facebook account? You all did such a great job!

Is there really a "normal" anyway? We are all so different it's hard to place people into group 1 or 2. Ya know? Maybe we should feel sorry for the "sane" people who to go through life never experiencing any of our "madness" that ultimately leads to creativity!!! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif I'm trying to learn to embraces my….let's call it "unique" outlook on life, instead of worry that something is wrong with me.
It is unfortunate that these misuderstood minds tend end their creative lives….

Chances are, if your lumbar spine (lower back) really arches while in a forward split you may be compensating for tight hip flexors. A slight arch is normal, its always best to maintain neutral whenever you can. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hi Sashagoldie! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif This is a common concern for many moms, and a few dads too! Your totally not alone! Here is one thread with some thoughts on this. https://stage.studioveena.com/forums/view/do_your_kids_know_you_pole_2010-01-11_175819
Also you can find more on this topic if you click on Discuss, you'll see a category box with a section called "just for moms and dads" You'll find other threads on this topic.
I was worried about this when I first started too, but now my kids hardly notice the pole is there. One of my sons drew a picture for school of his mom, and of course I was on a pole. LOL https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

I was JUST thinking about her today too!

Yes that’s a reverse grab. The lesson for it is in the link of the previous post.

Can you explain what this spin is? I'm not familiar with those names. Do you mean Reverse Grab? If it is I have a lesson that breaks it down for ya https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hi actually! As Chem mentioned I have strength and conditioning lessons. If you have signed up for the lessons be sure to start by watching each of the Getting Started videos at the beginning of each section. They will give you ideas on how to plan your pole sessions. Also, all lessons are place in order with a focus on strength building first, so there is no need to jump around trying to figure out what to work on next. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Eatvegancookies, I had the same problem when I lived in Minnesota. I would warm up and my pole was warmed too, but then, if I slowed down, or took even a short break I would cool down to much to grip. It seem to help if I put Lubriderm lotion on the night before I danced. Also I found that, the Titanium gold finsish worked best for me in cold weather.
