When you're stiff, try not to sit around too long. It ends up making you feel REALLY stiff. Try doing some light activity (not pole work) but swimming, walking, gentle yoga. Foam rolling and gentle stretching can help too. Try stretching and foam rolling after a very hot bath!!  https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Firemuffy… are you saying the Gemini also is painful or just the Bridge variation? You'll feel more pressure on the Knee pit in bridge as you place the arms over head to push away. Like all moves the pain will decrease over time. You'll be more sensitive to pain close to your period so keep that in mind as well. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

HI Polariz5. congrats on your great workout!!!

Here are some beginner tips and suggestions for ya. Please make sure to give your body a day off pole dance tricks after each session. This will help prevent overuse injuries. So MWF you would pole, and TTHS you would rest. I would suggest working on the Pole Hold without jumping though, for most pole moves the goal is to use control and avoid kicking, jumping or excessive swinging to perform moves. It all comes down to building strength with takes time, but it's so possible and totally worth it!

The fireman isn't easy, so don't feel discouraged by that! It is often thought of as one of the first move you should learn, but it's important to condition and strengthen the body before moving on to spins! Spins are not beginner moves.

If you are interest, and looking for guidance at home. I have a ton of info in the lessons here. I'll give you tips for how often to pole, as well as provide you with a structure to follow. All lessons are placed in order so there is no guess as to what to do next. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

LOL Sascha….I'm not upset over this. But, is does show the reality of how "some" perceive pole dance.

I have not seen the whole episode on Anderson's show. The little bit I did see was of Goldie (I only saw a bit) she was supportive, but had issues with the "term" pole dance, because people just can't separate pole dance from sexy. I can see where she is coming from on that. If you want to teach children to pole in a studio, I would not include it in a studio where sensuality is a focus. It would be best kept in a sporty pole studio setting. Calling it "little climbers" or something fun could cause people to be more open as well. I have not seen what the ladies on the show said or even what Anderson said to them.

Well this is not about the show… but it was posted on my video I made with my boys a few mins ago …..

Well, someone has to state the obvious, so here it goes: You are a stupid whore. Your kids will grow up to be stupid. You will never realize you are stupid. You haven't thought of the negative connotations of kids pole-dancing, well, because you don't THINK very often. The same people that support this are desperately trying to legalize child porn as well (looking at you, Huffposers). I'm sure as Rome was turning into a decadent hellhole. there were throngs of people calling it "progressive."

People are ignorant and there is nothing we can do to change that. It's up to us to just ignore them and move on. We know there are many sides to pole and there is a style of pole for everyone! xoxo

Spinny, I said…WAS a method, not IS. I have been using steam to clean for a year now…. on all of my poles, all of the finishes. No troubles. Thanks for your concern though. X-pole has also stated to aviod using glass cleaner…..

You don't let the steam sit or accumulate it only takes a second before you wipe it down. I've had grip aids gunk up the holes and joints also discolor my pole. Steam was the ONLY thing that took of residue from grip aids.

You wipe off the steam right away, it doesnt sit in the pole at all. One of their recommend cleaning methods for new poles was soap and water 😉

Have you tried cleaning the pole with a steamer? And have you made sure to fully warm your body and pole? Having warm skin is important for grip.https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

September 20, 2012 at 9:58 am in reply to: Personal trainer?

Hi Dancing in the gray! First please don't judge your weight/health by the BMI only…..or even just a scale. We all have very different body types, and being healthy, is the MOST important thing. The scale and BMI are just tools and they don't always give us the full picture! There are very unhealthy thin people and very healthy "overweight"<—- says BMI.

Eating right, and exercising should be the goal. Thin doesn't = heath. Reenie is correct about how fast weight loss should be. ……Anyway the rate for a trainer you posted, is pretty standard and finding a trainer you feel comfortable with is very important. Just like pole instructors, your trainer should be able to give you several options if you find an exercise they've given hurts or doesn't work for you. They should be able to give you cues as to how you can get the most out of every exercise. Small adjustments can made a big difference! If the trainer just tells you "do this, like this" and sits there looking around at others, not giving you the attention or direction you need find someone else.

I was wondering if you have ever taken the lesson here? I have a lot of conditioning and stretching that could possibly help you with your imbalance! There have been member who have seen great results by doing these exercises here. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

September 19, 2012 at 9:48 am in reply to: Is Twisted Grip affecting me?

The Twisted Grip is a professional level move. The risk is very high that the majority of the population does not have the strength or range of motion to perform this without risk of injury. I don't feel it's a grip that should be taught in studios, if it is, it should be done during  private lessons and both the student and instructor need to know what to look for as far as readiness and poor technique.

Many of us, myself included, have said over and over, please do not use the twisted grip because it's "easier" to hold moves. Respect your body and it's limits and focus on your strengths. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif

Pain in the bottom arm durning split grips is common as well, and is commonly due to poor technique or lack of strength. The split grip is advanced, and we all should remember that not every pole move is right for all pole dancers.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Aradia. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Don't stress about it…I've been thin my whole life and I have wrinkles, dimples and crumples https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif "oh my", on my butt and thighs. I find that staying hydrated helps a little bit but nothing huge. It is what it is….all photos we see in the media are edited sooooo, we can't compare to that.
