Unfortunately, attending a class once a week is not enough to build up strength. Don't be discouraged though. the girls had some great advice. Like they said, there are always things you can do at home, even if you don't have a pole.https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif If you are interested there are strength and conditioning lessons here on the site. You do not need a pole for these, they can be done with a wall or door way! Working on strength 3 times a week leaving a rest day in between workouts is a great start to building up strength! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

The foam roller is great for relaxing the muscles! You can use it before you dance or stretch, you can also use it if you're sore from a previous workout. I have a lesson section just for the roller! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I don’t think anyone is talking about headstands….. 🙂 But anyway, headstands can be done safely if your experienced. I feel starting with the elbowstand is best though, I never really use the headstand for anything.

That’s awsome pdr!! That’s why we still have a chat room, to get together!! Its a great way to make new friends here.

If you feel lots of pressure on your head, check to make sure you’re engaging the shoulders properly. If you are taking the lessons I cover this. It can take time to learn but it’s worth it.

You can always meet up with a veener in chat! 🙂

Yes you can. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifIf you're taking the lessons you can see it used for stretching in the Splits routines.

One thing to remember regardless of which grip you use, you need to keep contact between the legs with the pole for as longs as possible as you SLOWLY switch from legs to hands. I think sometimes a dancers goes from legs to hands quickly without using between the legs. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

The girls have great suggestions. In addition to conditioning and watching all the getting started, remember the pole strength routine is not meant to be easy. It's not the Beginner section because the lessons are "easy" but rather they are necessary for building strength and technique needed to prepare the body for pole…. In fact, I recently had time off the pole only weeks and could only manage 5 knee tucks! Also be sure you've worked on the individual pole strength first. The conditioning lessons are super important.
Make sure to write down and track your reps, so you can look back and see if you're improving. Just managing one more rep is GREAT and it is a big deal!
For things like the Pole Hold, remember you can grip the pole between the knees too, until you're strong enough for arms only. Stay with the beginner variations until you can reach 12 reps, then move to the more challenging variation.
Try working on the transitions and floorwork too, these are fun ways to build confidence with the pole again and strength! Getting back into poling always feels frustrating the first few sessions or even weeks, but it will get better !!https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Yes that’s correct. I wouldn’t say you have to do it that way but it’s the way I teach it. 🙂
