You all have some grip tips!
I think one of the problems polers have with the Forearm grip is holding the pole near the center of the chest, instead of over by the shoulder. Holding in the center of the chest will make you feel like you're going to fall straight down, there's no leverage. This is a common problem with the Caterpillar as well. Also don't rush to open the legs into V or extend them into a straight edge, work on holding the Tucked Caterpillar position until you can hold it in tuck without the legs touching the pole. Then move on to your V or straight edge. https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
Here are lessons for the Forearm and Elbow grip.

Leesi, really great job! So controlled, I love that!

If you're taking the lessons sparrow, it sounds like the Shoulder V lesson. I'm pretty sure cupcake meant she sweeps the opposite leg you mount on. I don't think she uses the same leg of the shoulder the pole is on, and sweeps out to the opposite side and up? That would seem harder. In the lesson the "lead", or what cupcake calls the "sweeping" leg is the opposite side of the shoulder that the pole is on. So if the pole is on the right shoulder, the left leg leads.

I thought it was great to see thoughts and even research, from someone who has just been introduced to pole dance! So often we only see something like this from those who have been involved with pole for some time.
Wrinkletalk, Thank you for the interview and I enjoyed our first lesson together.https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hooked is right, in order for it to be a "Veena grip" the hand of the shoulder you mount on is low, the other is extended fully. I wouldn't suggest swithing the hands for this grip. RikkiL is correct too, it's good to try all kinds of grips, but I do also think the V grip is one of the nicest to use for a flip, because it offers a lot of control at the top of the move.

Welcome to the site!! If you have a brand of brass pole you have used before, and you like it. Maybe see if you can buy that brand.

Ouch! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I hope you're feeling a bit better now.
I would suggest staying away from dynamic stretches if you've been away from flexibility training for a while, or are new to flexibility training. These need to be done carefully with correct form.
To help relive the strain, try heat and massage, returning to light stretches once you feel a bit better in a few days. Heating pads, hot tubs, hot baths are all good heat options, a foam roller is a great tool for both sore and strained muscles. Feel better soon.

Doing this from the floor should not be harder if you know how to do it. If you're trying to do it from sitting then yes, that is very difficult. Don't forget about all the other muscles needed to perform this move. Just look at the long list of muscles used in the lesson! I strongly suggest using the Veena grip for those who feel the move isn't secure for them.
Also everyone please remember not every move is suitable for all dancers. You can see in the lessons here the SM is listed waaaaay down towards the end in the Advanced section. Strength and control is needed do to this successfully. Never performing a shoulder mount won't make you less of a pole dancer! https://stage.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
Here is the lesson, included is how to do this from the floor. https://stage.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4d6bac4d-8044-4fa9-9aaa-66300ac37250
