Everyone has great advice. Post a video once you’re feeling better, also the lessons here have some great ways to build up to Aerial Inverts, they take time. If you don’t have the lessons, check out this video, it has some great tips for inverting that can save your back! http://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PLyXWQXP3dueofybLatPPuLCbvfSPF2oSF&feature=plpp&v=rJ3V_2DsxgE

It’s an interesting dynamic, not being able to physically teach someone and see the results and triumphs first hand. Posts like this, make all of my efforts worth while!! My whole life I’ve been drawn towards teaching and helping others, it really is a passion. Thank you both for sharing! xoxoxox

I’m gonna hyjack this thread, because I’m excited to share my idea with the Veena family! I’ll be posting one strength training exercise once a day for 30 days on my Instagram account! Don’t fear, if you don’t have instagram I’ll also be sharing it through Twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/StudioVeena and of course our Studioveena.com Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/studioveenacom?ref=hl

You’ll need a fit ball, set of free weights and an iron gym.

It’s interesting you feel that way!! I feel the same way about the new (chrome) xpoles. My old chromes from 5-6 yrs ago are fine. In fact I didn’t mind using chrome back then. The new xpoles however, I can’t get it to not feel slick!

The SV pole is smooth and glossy, but lil mynx has a special process for our pole. I would think that he can easily sand down the areas that need to be exposed. I don’t know if there is anything that can be done about the texture though. You could try the Mighty grip and mix I posted about, to see if that might help you grip?

I agree with what everyone said about the size, hand grip is easier, but you’ll find you need to make adjustments for legs. You’ll get use to it, hang in there!

RICE! Rest, ice, compression, elevation, works well immediately after you realize you’ve injured yourself. However some studies now suggest that using heat is best. You can try using both and see which works for you. I personally prefer heat, as long as you don’t have swelling around the injury.

You are not alone πŸ™‚ So many of us have gone through long periods of time away from the pole, because of depression, time or just life! There is never an ideal time to start anything so as you said getting back on it is step 1. πŸ™‚ Try to take things one day at a time. If you have purchased the lessons you might find the 30 day take off is perfect for easing back into things. Each day we do new things and it’s not a large time commitment. You do your tasks and your done! It was created for busy people who can’t always be on their poles consistently. Take care of yourself and know you’re not alone! xoxox

January 5, 2014 at 10:08 am in reply to: Static or Spinning?

I don’t think one is easier then another, I do think teaching a new move should be done on static with out heels, but there are studios that only teach on spin with heels. So it’s really a matter of what your use to. It can also depend on what your working on, spins like a front hook take are technically less difficult, then the static from walking front hook. However, I teach most spins as a static from standing (no walking into it until you become stronger) this is usually the easiest of all for someone to understand and hold. Working on spinning pole during inverts and climbs can be more challenging for sure. It’s really personally preference, if you start off on spinny you’ll find creating moment on a static pole challenging, if you start off on static you might become dizzy easily and have a hard time keeping the pole spinning.

January 3, 2014 at 12:24 pm in reply to: pain in wrists

Hi jlsampson! Often times people don’t realize how much force is generated during a static spin. We need to work on strengthening the muscles of the hand, wrist, forearm and shoulders before working on static spins πŸ™‚

The girls have great advice! In your photo jlsampson your fully gripping the pole, this will stress the wrist.

I teach 2 options for lower hand placement.
    1. Is the grip shown in the photo posted by Nina. This is the correct alignment for the bottom hand. However when using this grip for spins you don’t even need to grip the pole with all the fingers. Instead you can focus on using only the PALM of the hand to push away from the pole.

Option 2 is a grip with the pole resting between the thumb and pointer finger, palm facing the floor.

This lesson demonstrates both options and includes close ups too! https://stage.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4f859429-2dbc-41f1-86e4-282a0ac37250
